How to transcribe a Zoom recording

    1. Find the recording: Zoom saves local recordings in Documents → Zoom (an MP4 and an M4A audio file).
    2. Drop the MP4 or the M4A into the box above and pick the spoken language.
    3. Start the transcription, then copy the text or download TXT or SRT subtitles.

    Why not Zoom's own transcript?

Zoom's automatic cloud transcripts need a paid plan and cloud recording, and the recording is stored on Zoom's servers. Local recordings (the free option) come without a transcript. Vidverter fills that gap: it runs the Whisper speech model inside your browser on the file you already have.

    Tips for accurate meeting transcripts

    Respect privacy and consent

Only transcribe meetings you were allowed to record. Many states and countries require everyone's consent to record a call.

    Frequently asked questions

How long can the recording be?

Free transcribes files up to 10 minutes. Pro handles recordings of any length, such as hour-long meetings, and whole batches. On iPhone and iPad before iOS 26, and in Safari on a Mac before macOS 26, the limit is 10 minutes per file on every plan, because of browser memory limits.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Vidverter runs entirely in your browser and uses your device's own video encoders. Files never leave your computer or phone, so it is safe for private recordings, and there is no upload or download wait.

Does it tell who is speaking?

No, speaker labels are not added. You get accurate text with timestamps, which you can label by hand.
