How to screen record on a Chromebook
- Choose whether to record your microphone and tab sound.
- Click "Start recording" and pick the screen, a window or a tab.
- Click "Stop" and download the MP4 to your Downloads folder.
The built-in way: Screen capture
Built-in recordings are WebM files on many Chromebooks, which some teachers' portals, editors and phones won't accept. Vidverter saves MP4 directly; if you already have a WebM, convert it with WebM to MP4.
- Press Shift + Ctrl + Show windows (the key with rectangles), or open Quick Settings → Screen capture.
- Switch to the video icon, choose full screen, a window or an area, and turn on the microphone in the settings gear if you want your voice.
- Click the red stop button in the shelf when done. The recording lands in Downloads.
What you get
- Records the whole screen, one window or a single browser tab, with your microphone and (where the browser allows it) the sound of the tab or system.
- Saves an MP4 straight to your computer: no upload, no account, no watermark.
- Free recordings last up to 5 minutes in 1080p; Pro removes the time limit and records in up to 4K at 60 fps.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work on a school Chromebook?
Usually yes, it is just a web page. Some school administrators block screen capture; in that case neither this page nor the built-in tool will work.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Vidverter runs entirely in your browser and uses your device's own video encoders. Files never leave your computer or phone, so it is safe for private recordings, and there is no upload or download wait.
